When it comes to ADHD and the symptoms of ADD and ADHD, to many it seems there is really no way to avoid any of the symptoms that come with ADHD. However, recent research has shown that getting proper amounts of sleep can decrease certain ADHD symptoms and this is what we will discuss.

It's not just kids who drive many individuals crazy with ADD and ADHD symptoms but also adults. To those who are currently dealing with this, it is obviously of no surprise. But for those who seem to have less and less hope of gaining control of the ADD and ADHD symptoms, maintaining a regular sleep cycle may really help those with ADD. However, modern research has shown that the same chemicals involved with heightened emotions during sleep and REM in general also affect those with ADHD. These chemicals include dopamine and norepinephrine. Studies are still being performed on circadian rhythm and the variances of chemicals in the brain.

When it comes to children, getting the kids to bed in time can really make a huge difference. Of course, ADHD in general is still being studied, but there is plenty of research showing the similarities.

So what is a parent to do...in addition to getting the kids to bed in time? Keep the caffeine away from them, not just in the evenings but also the afternoons. The caffeine is still present in many and may cause sleep to become disturbed and less REM. Of course, REM is still (and may always be) a mystery to most, but the lack of this stage seems to affect those with ADHD and the symptoms thereof.

Of course medications DO help ease the symptoms, but there are ways to get this all under control without excessive usage of drugs such as Adderall and the like. When individuals are diagnosed with ADHD, in many cases, they are being misdiagnosed as it is simply due to chaos in the household and more. This chaos may lead to less proper sleep and thus ADHD symptoms.

For many people who think they may have ADHD or ADD, it may simply be due to lack of sleep or sleep deprivation in general. It is so easy for anyone to simply say "get more sleep", but the reality is, this is an issue for a very large amount of people who think they just have a disorder than cannot be controlled.

If all else seems to be failing, why not try to put together a good sleep schedule and see what happens. This may take a while to get into a regular cycle. But, once a good sleep schedule is in place, it may seem that amazing things have taken place in the person's behavior simply due to getting proper sleep to help reduce the symptoms of ADHD.
